What to Bring to the Bris
bring.hero.subtitle
Necessary Supplies
- A wonderful baby
- An outfit that ideally has a onesie on top that the baby will wear for the bris
- A spare outfit
- 6 diapers (these should be disposable even if your long-term plan is cloth diapers)
- A pillow with a pillowcase
- 2 receiving blankets
- 20 4x4 gauze pads
- 2 Vaseline (or generic equivalent) tubes or 1 small Vaseline tub
- 1 bottle of kosher grape juice (available here, or at Green Hills Kroger, Walmart, Target, or Nova Market)
- 1 disposable cup
- The Hebrew name you have chosen for your child
- Food for a reception afterwards. At a minimum, this could be a loaf of bread or a true meal, but it is important that there is some kind of celebratory food afterwards.
Additional Supplies if Having Bris at Home
The synagogue will supply these if you hold it there.
- 2 sturdy chairs
- A table in the area where the bris will be (a card table is best, bigger is also ok)
- A nice cup like one might use for kiddush
Optional Supplies
- 1 bottle of kosher wine (the baby will have the grape juice, the wine is for the blessings if the grownups will prefer that)
- Children's Tylenol (acetaminophen) — consult with your pediatrician if you are going to give it to the baby prior to and/or after the bris
- Lidocaine cream — consult with your pediatrician and me if you are going to give it to the baby prior to the bris
